In today’s news, Ireland supports UNICEF’s work in Jordan, China suspends poultry imports from company in United States, wind turbine power plant in Thailand adds battery storage, scientists in United Kingdom develop novel filter for limiting carbon pollution, Australian diver frees baby whale from shark nets, survey in Germany shows people eating less meat and Canadian nonprofit rescues dogs during coronavirus lockdown.

Children and women in Jordan benefit from Irish kindness.

A new contribution of US$1.1 million from the government of Ireland is supporting the continuation of relief efforts by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) during the COVID-19 pandemic. In partnership with Jordan’s Ministry of Health, the UN agency provides programs in the areas of health, nutrition, clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene for vulnerable individuals in refugee camps and the host community. In addition, UNICEF works with the Ministry of Education to increase the availability of quality instruction in the country, especially pre-primary early childhood development, as well as non-formal classes for students who have dropped out of school for various reasons. Our hearts are gladdened, Ireland and UNICEF! In Heaven’s merciful grace, may the children, their mothers and all at-risk populations receive the loving attention they need as our world realizes its unity.

Poultry products from American poultry plant stopped by Chinese customs.

According to a trade deal signed in January 2020, China was going to substantially increase its orders for US goods. But in June, hundreds of workers at a chicken plant in Arkansas tested positive for COVID-19. In the same month, Beijing experienced a fresh outbreak of the disease. This prompted the government to suspend not only the poultry from the affected plant, but beef imports from a supplier in Brazil and pork from a company in the UK. The unpredictable nature of the disease warrants extreme caution. China is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, Wildlife-Protection, Wise Governance, Compassionate Protection laureate. Our sincere gratitude, China, for your wise actions to protect your citizens. May governments around the world swiftly enact vegan laws to permanently ban the consumption of animal products, thus providing the ultimate protection against zoonotic diseases, in Celestial celebration.

I have an exercise tip for anyone who has lost mobility.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is financing Thailand’s first private-sector combination of wind-based power generation and a battery energy storage system (BESS).

The US$7.2 million loan will benefit an existing 10-megawatt plant in the southern part of the country. Whenever electrical production exceeds what the domestic grid can absorb, the battery system will take it. This will add to the green electricity that can ultimately feed into the grid while improving the dependability of the energy source. ADB considers the addition of the BESS an experiment that could serve as a model for other renewable facilities in Southeast Asia. Bravo, Asian Development Bank, for being on the cutting edge of planet-preserving technology. We look forward to a proliferation of such eco-initiatives throughout the world, in the light of the Divine.

A carbon-capturing membrane that assembles itself has been invented by British researchers.

A team at Newcastle University wanted to design a filter that would grow more of the precious metal it needs to function effectively. The experiment started with a foundation of aluminum oxide and only a tiny amount of silver. The introduction of carbon dioxide and oxygen then activated the formation of silver dendrites, or crystalline structures that continued to disperse. Such a membrane, in its final form, would be capable of competing with existing pollution control technologies, but at a reduced cost. What a great achievement, Newcastle University researchers! May your device soon be produced on an industrial scale to remove carbon emissions from our planet’s precious atmosphere, in God's grace.

Diver rescues humpback calf off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

When Gold Coast resident Django Hopkins learned of a baby whale being caught in shark netting, he took his boat out to the spot and dived in. Without concern for his own safety, he set the distressed animal free using only a knife. At first, the responsible government department threatened to fine Mr. Hopkins for illegally interfering with shark control equipment, and a fundraising campaign was started on the diver’s behalf. However, officials decided against imposing a monetary penalty. They issued infringement notices instead, and the donated money was given to the nonprofit Sea Shepherd Australia. We gratefully applaud your spontaneous compassion and courage, Django Hopkins! May all treasured marine life flourish in peace and contentment, as humans adopt plant-based lifestyles and assume guardianship of all animal co-inhabitants, in the radiance of the Providence. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present the Shining World Hero Award to Django Hopkins, for your brave and compassionate act to save the precious baby whale, with much love, respect and heartfelt gratitude. May Heaven bless and shield you abundantly, in the immense love of the Divine.”

Coming up, survey in Germany shows people eating less meat. We’ll take a moment now to introduce Karagöz a traditional form of shadow theater and a UNESCO-inscribed Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity from Turkey. More praiseworthy news when we return! German study finds downward trend in meat consumption.

For its 2020 report on nutrition in Germany, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture commissioned Forsa, a social research institute, to conduct a representative survey of people’s food choices. The results showed that 70% of the population eats fruit and vegetables every day. In contrast, the number of individuals eating meat on a daily basis has decreased. When a similar project was undertaken in 2015, 34% of participants said that meat was on their plates every day. Now, in 2020, that statistic has dropped to 26%. Curiosity and concerns about animal welfare were the most common reasons consumers gave for purchasing vegetarian or vegan products. Germany is a Shining World Leadership Award for Compassion and a Shining World Caring Leadership Award laureate. We thank Forsa and Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture for this encouraging report. May your nation be a front runner in the race to rescue our world through your openness to Divine mercies.

Canine adoptions in Canada continue despite COVID-19.

Fly With Me is a nonprofit based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, that finds homes for dogs that would otherwise be euthanized. The organization’s founder, Nicole Doria, arranges for four-legged friends to be flown from anywhere in the world to Canada’s Maritime Provinces, to join a welcoming family. When international flights were suspended in March 2020 due to pandemic precautions, Ms. Doria discovered that cross-border ground transportation for rescued dogs would be allowed. The first pooches from shelters in the United States arrived in Canada at the end of March, and a group of 45 followed on May 10. “It involves a lot more work,” Ms. Doria said, “but it’s worth it.” Our heartfelt appreciation, Nicole Doria and all Fly With Me volunteers, for rescuing these furry angels. May all animals on Earth be protected and cherished, in Heaven’s watchful gaze. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Touchingly present the Shining World Compassion Award to Fly With Me, along with US$10,000 in loving support of your benevolent work saving lives, with lots of love, praises and gratitude. May Divine blessings and protections forever shine on you, all involved and the treasured dogs you help, in God’s boundless mercy.”

Let’s ease our mind with an original joke by our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai, entitled “An Encouraging Date.”

“So, how was your blind date last night?”

“Eh... very encouraging.”

“Sounds good! And...?”

“After the first conversation, I feel definitely encouraged to see her... never again.”

??!!

And now we have a heartline from Yun-er in Taiwan, also known as Formosa:

I can’t but love You, I can’t but love You, because Your true name is Love.

I can’t find perfect words to praise You.

Because no words can express my gratitude enough.

It’s You who sustains all lives of the entire world in glowing lights.

It’s You who brings uplifting hopes to all beings.

It’s You who fills the universes with all-prevailing love.

It’s You who shows us the dawning of peace.

Just like the Sun, the Moon and stars that selflessly shine from above,

You are the Protector of all beings on Earth, the Teacher of all humankind.

I can’t put into words to describe Your boundless love.

You are my eternal love with the brightest light, throughout all my lifetimes.

Yun-er from Taiwan (Formosa)

Poetic Yun-er, Our appreciation for sending this delightful poem that so beautifully reminds us of our unfathomable fortune of having Supreme Master Ching Hai here on our planet and safeguarding our Universe.
