In today’s news, Switzerland supports refugees and displaced people in Iraq, new report urges global halt to animal livestock raising, afforestation effort bears fruit in China, electric motorcycle improves livelihoods of rural Zimbabwean women, United States film industry caterer serves free vegan meals to hospital workers, Thailand to host plant-based food factory, and United Kingdom canine rescue group nominated for hero award.

Switzerland provides food assistance to Syrian refugees in Iraq.

The Government of Switzerland has donated more than US$522,000 to the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide one month’s food aid to 13,400 internally displaced Iraqis and 10,400 Syrian refugees in the country. The funds are being distributed using a new technology developed by the WFP that allows recipients to purchase food without having to use banknotes or move around during the COVID-19 pandemic. The WFP and its partners have continued spreading information on precautionary health measures and when safe to do so, will begin helping people to secure livelihoods. Many thanks to Switzerland for your generosity, and to the World Food Programme for your steadfast presence in places of need. May the cherished Iraqi and Syrian recipients soon emerge from this challenging time with renewed hope and possibilities, in Heaven’s grace.

Experts call for rapid transition to plant-based food system to avoid future health crises.

In an editorial titled “What the COVID-19 Crisis Is Telling Humanity,” prominent academic physicians Dr. David O. Wiebers from the United States and Professor Valery Feigin from New Zealand warned that deadly zoonotic disease outbreaks are largely related to our “increasingly unnatural human-animal close contact,” “grossly aberrant crowding of animals” in livestock factories, and habitat destruction. The researchers called for the worldwide discontinuation of animal factories and for a rapid shift to consuming safer proteins, namely plant and cell-based alternatives. The article, which was published in the journal Neuroepidemiology and is available free online, concluded: “Ultimately, the survival, not only of other life forms on this planet, but also of our own, will depend upon humanity’s ability to recognize the oneness of all that exists and the importance and deeper significance of compassion for all life.” Our deep appreciation, Dr. David O. Wiebers and Professor Valery Feigin. In God’s wisdom, may the world soon realize indeed that a kind vegan world is the only way to a safe future for all.

Up next, afforestation effort bears fruit in China. We’ll take a little pause to thank the vegan fashion models who are promoting the trendy, animal-loving style. When we return, more comforting news ahead, here on Supreme Master Television!

Hooray, treasured friends, it's me your cute Farah the vegan Malayan Colugo! If you think vegan makes me attractive, you are so right. Well, it’s your turn to try it. I have a little tip for you today on how to keep your animal companions cool during the summer heat. You can make a frozen water bottle for your furry friends to lean on so they can feel more comfortable. Rabbits and guinea pigs especially appreciate this. Fill a reused plastic bottle with water, freeze it, then place it in your loved one’s area. Be sure to use a sturdy bottle with a sealed and safe cap. Thank you for watching and love you for Being Veg and Going Green 2 Save the Planet thus save the world! Now, the weather around the globe.

China, a Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, Wildlife-Protection, Wise Governance and Compassionate Protection laureate, turns an entire desert green after decades of tree planting.

The Maowusu Desert’s 42,200 square kilometers in the Shaanxi Province of China have become over 93% forested after residents began planting trees since 1959. The decades-long project was started when sandstorms caused the people of Yulin to have to move their city southward three times. Today, they have extended the green area 400 kilometers to the north. The endeavor continues today by state and private-owned businesses wanting to go green as well as villagers making use of their extra time during the pandemic. Congratulations, China, on creating your oasis miracle! May your diligent efforts inspire us all to work towards the restoration of our planet, in the Buddha’s love.

Zimbabwean women empowered by electric-powered motorcycles.

Start-up social enterprise Mobility for Africa is leasing a new three-wheeled motorcycle named Hamba (meaning “Go” in Zulu) to groups of women entrepreneurs in the rural Wezda district of the country. This enables them to generate better incomes by taking their produce farther to higher-paying market centers, entering new job fields, or transporting fellow villagers for a fee. In addition, the new means of transport has eased household chores such as collecting water and facilitated access to a clinic for childbirth or medical concerns. The Hamba motorcycle is powered by a solar-rechargeable battery and will later be available for sale. We sincerely applaud Mobility for Africa and your beneficial innovation. May the Divine grant abundant prosperity and joy to the hard-working women of Zimbabwe and their families.

American film industry caterer makes vegan meals for hospital workers.

Along with his wife Lena Viddo and son Valentino, Felipe Avalos, co-owner of Big Love Catering in Brooklyn, New York, has been preparing free nutritious plant-based meals for seven of the state’s hospitals during the coronavirus crisis. Mr. Avalos decided to make the charitable meals all plant-based after talking to his vegan activist friend Ray Ippolito and recognizing that radical change was needed as meat had led to this very pandemic. With support from online fundraising campaigns and product donations from vegan companies, over 4,000 delectable meals, such as vegan creamy pasta, vegan Reuben sandwiches, burritos, etc., have been delivered by their caring friends to grateful frontline doctors, nurses and staff, plus families in need. Thank you, Felipe Avalos, Lena Viddo and Valentino, for your big love in action spreading the vital vegan message through your nourishing meals. In Heaven’s light, may more hearts and minds embrace the life-saving plant-based diet.

Coming up, Thailand to host plant-based food factory. We’ll pause now to send a solemn prayer for our animal co-inhabitants who face extinction due to climate change and other human disruptions. May we cherish all sacred lives on Earth in order to save our own race too. You’re watching Noteworthy News on Supreme Master Television.

United States and Thai companies team up for plant-based food production.

US-headquartered plant-based food producer Atlantic Natural Foods (ANF) is building a new 4,350-square meter production facility in Bangkok, Thailand together with its Thai partner Pattaya Food Group. The factory will be fully dedicated to manufacturing shelf-stable, plant-based foods such as ANF’s popular Loma Linda branded TUNO. Loma Linda has also reported a 40% sales growth from April 2019 to April 2020. The new facility in Thailand will help ANF keep up with the rising public demand for healthy and compassionate plant-based meals. The company is also increasing production in its North Carolina, US plant through additional staff and equipment. All the best, Atlantic Natural Foods and Pattaya Food Group! May your auspicious ventures be blessed with success to spread the vegan lifestyle to all corners of the globe.

United Kingdom canine rescue group nominated for hero award.

Greyhound Gap, a charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of greyhounds and lurchers, has been nominated for the daily regional newspaper Sentinel’s Our Heroes Awards 2020 in the Charity Champion and the Community Group categories. Founded in 2003 by Lisa Cartwright, Greyhound Gap has to date saved the lives of as many as 6,000 dogs, while enriching the community in many ways. Notably, the non-profit group provides veterinary treatments for the treasured dog companions of people living without homes and takes care of the canine friends of those needing to stay at hospitals. Furthermore, volunteer work with the gentle canines has benefited college students, pensioners and offenders fulfilling their community service duties. Our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations, Lisa Cartwright and Greyhound Gap. In God’s benevolence, may we all experience the joy of extending kindness to fellow precious beings. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present the Shining World Caring Award to Felipe Avalos, Lena Viddo and Valentino, and a US$10,000 contribution in humble support of your noble family effort, with lots of love, gratitude and praise. May God bless you and your team always, in Divine protection.”
