Taoist Teachings from the Book of Lieh Tzu, Part 3 of 4, Sep 17 & Oct 1, 1995

Let's take a look at the health concepts of the ancient people. There was a person called Yang Zhu, probably from the same period as Lieh Tzu. He thought there were four reasons that humans could not be at peace. And they are: One, greed for longevity. Two, greed for name and fame. Three, greed for taste, probably for food. Four, greed for money. He thought these people tried to evade nature. If we follow our destiny, we don't need to seek longevity. If we don't care about power, then we won't seek for social status. If we don't care about wealth, then we won't seek to become rich or pay much attention to money. "These people," Yang Zhu said, "live according to nature. In this world nothing can be compared with them." In the Qi State, Guan Zhong was very famous. One time, there was a person called Yan Ping-Zhong. He asked Guan Zhong how to live a healthy life. Guan Zhong said, "Relax and do whatever you want to do." Maybe Guan Zhong practiced Taoism. Just look at his big heart, his ability to bring peace to the world, and his gentle and tactful way of dealing with king. Only someone who practices spiritually can do it.
