Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi, or simply Gandhi, was born in Porbandar in the state of Gujarat, India, in 1869. As faithful vaishnavas, the Gandhi family members were strict vegetarians, diligently maintaining the compassionate, peaceful diet.
