Thanh Hong, a rich man’s daughter, was captured by demons while bringing rice to offer the poor. The rich man announced that whoever rescued his beloved daughter from danger will have her hand in marriage. Meanwhile, an honest and kind-hearted peasant named Chat Phac had had saved the life of a fairy in the form of a fish. In gratitude, the fairy offered him a magic axe which Chat Phac was determined to use in order to go to save Thanh Hong.
