“Hi mom, it’s Tom. I’ve just got a quick question for you. Why did you raise me not eating meat? My name’s Tom, and I’ve never eaten meat. But I can’t seem to go a day without hearing from others about why they could never go vegan.” Since birth, Tom and James Pickering were raised in a vegetarian household and have never eaten animal-people. Then, in 2017, they made the compassionate shift to a fully vegan lifestyle. Following an extensive four-year process of James working as the writer and producer and Tom as the director and editor, the Pickering brothers released “I Could Never Go Vegan” in cinemas across the UK and Ireland in April 2024, to glowing reviews from media outlets and the general public alike.

“And so basically, I explore the various arguments against the vegan movement. So, it’s on the doctors, scientists, environmentalists, athletes, chefs – anyone who’s anyone – and we really try and get to the bottom of why these arguments exist.” “I did a little experiment where I came off dairy, and literally overnight, I felt like a new person. It was incredible.” “We were very aware that we were coming from a space where we were both vegan, so we wanted to create an objective documentary that presented the data for people to take away with to not tell people what to do, not be preachy, but they can take away the information, the data, and then they can make up their own minds with it.” “There’s Paul Youd, who’s an 86-year-old ultra-athlete. Paul Youd, who has this crazy ambition to do a million press-ups between the ages of 80 and 90. And then 100 ultras before he’s 100 years old.” “The one thing I would say is, we were so fortunate in that the vegan community, in general, people are so willing to give up their time. And nobody who features in the film, for example, got paid a penny.”
