Jane Elizabeth (vegan) is an ultramarathon runner, author, public speaker, and passionate animal-people rights advocate. She is also the Senior Director of People & Operations at the nonprofit organization In Defense of Animals. Over a period of 18 months, she lost 85 pounds (~38.6 kilograms), reversed her obesity, asthma, chronic joint pain, and high blood pressure – all issues she had struggled with for years – and became a competitive endurance athlete. Her transformation is a testament to the power of a plant-based diet and regular physical activity.

“So, back in that moment when my daughter was about a year old, I was suffering with some health conditions. I was obese at that time. I was suffering from chronic asthma, joint pain and high blood pressure. So, I went vegan and I decided to also start running at that time and change my relationship with food and fitness. So, doing those two things hand in hand really helped me change my life. And I turned things around.” “When I learned that you can get your protein from plants, you don’t have to kill animals in order to get protein. Then, I learned about the environmental impact of raising and slaughtering so many animals just for human consumption, and the food scarcity that is the impact of that as well, around the world.”

Ms. Elizabeth, as a strong and healthy role model for her vegan daughter, provides valuable insights into promoting a positive body image and self-appreciation among young people. “It doesn’t have to look any certain way as long as she’s active, creative, healthy, and has a good relationship with her own body.” “And you’re able to make choices in a much more liberated perspective. And I think that is one of the best ways, honestly, to make change going forward for this whole generation and all future generations.”
