The saying “waste not, want not” appropriately applies to fruit peels that consumers often discard. However, you can make preserves out of them, thereby reducing food waste, saving you money, and benefiting the environment. Today we are delighted to share with you some homemade vegan candies and sweet preserves recipes using the peels from dragon fruits, Asian pears, and oranges. It’s better to use organic fruits, so you will not worry about the harmful chemicals sprayed.

For the Vegan Preserved Dragon Fruit Peel, the ingredients are: 274g of dragon fruit peels, 66g of vegan white granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon (about 15g) of fresh lemon juice, ½ teaspoon of pomelo juice (optional: Yuzu juice), 3 dried preserved seedless plums

For the Vegan Candied Asian Pear Peel, the ingredients are: 90g of Asian pear peels, 66g of vegan white granulated sugar

For the Vegan Candied Orange Peel, the ingredients are: 235g of orange peel, 235g of vegan white granulated sugar

It has been a pleasure, and perhaps this may have inspired you to think twice before throwing away your fruit peels. If you try these recipes, you can be proud of yourself for reducing food waste while creating a delicious snack. Pack the candies as gifts for friends to spread the message of “waste not, want not,” and they will surely appreciate it.
