Thai Cuisine is famous because of its rich flavors and aromas, using fresh ingredients and balancing the five flavor profiles: saltiness, sweetness, spiciness, sourness, and creaminess. One naturally vegan classic dessert is Thai Mango Sticky Rice, called Khao Niaow Ma Muang in Thai. So, let’s join Ms. Achara and see how you can make this delicious and mouthwatering dessert yourself.

“This dessert is called ‘Mango Sticky Rice or Sweet Sticky Rice.’ Let’s begin by steaming the sweet sticky rice. We steam it in a traditional steamer basket and steamer pot that is commonly used by Thais to steam sticky rice. We line a piece of thin cloth inside the steamer basket. Then we place the Keo Ngoo sticky rice in it. Before steaming, we have rinsed the sticky rice thoroughly, then soaked it for six hours. After that, we can steam it. We place some water in the steamer pot and bring the water to a boil. Then, we will steam the sticky rice for about 30 minutes.

In the meantime, we will prepare the coconut milk mixture for the sticky rice. Let’s put the coconut milk, 300 milliliters of clean water, 100 grams of vegan sugar, and five grams of salt in a pot. Turn on the stove to low heat to simmer the mixture. The coconut milk mixture is starting to get hot. It’s now been ten minutes, and the sugar and salt have dissolved. Next, we will mix the sticky rice into this coconut milk mixture and mix them together. When some bubbles appear, we will quickly turn off the heat. Scoop the sticky rice into the coconut milk mixture. Then, soak the sticky rice in the coconut milk mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Now, we will make the coconut milk topping to put on top of the sticky rice. Add 200 grams or 200 milliliters of coconut milk, 60 grams of vegan sugar, three grams of salt. As before, turn on the stove to low heat. Simmer and keep stirring the coconut milk mixture until the sugar and salt are dissolved. Now, we turn off the heat. We transfer the coconut milk topping into a bowl. Now, our coconut milk topping is done.

Next, we will cut the mango, which will be eaten with the sticky rice. Let’s scoop the sticky rice and place it onto a plate. This is the coconut milk topping. Spoon some coconut milk topping on top of the sticky rice. We now have our Thai Mango Sticky Rice, which is very popular among Thai people.”
