“Knowing that the serpent had become harmless, throngs of people started arriving from nearby villages. They worshipped the serpent-god. They worshipped him by offering milk and sweets. But the serpent tolerated these afflictions with equanimity. It silently took the last vow. The snake’s body became almost perforated, but it did not react at all. The serpent had become good and purified himself by his sincere repentance and endurance of the suffering to repay all the karma that he made, the bad karma. So, he was reborn as a god.
