The story recounted Buddha’s great deeds of compassion and offering. Countless lifetimes Buddha do such things so that he can accumulate this merit in order to attain Buddhahood. It’s not like one day he was born and then he walked seven steps and then he became Buddha. He had accumulated merits, life after lifetime and eon after eon. These stories remind us that we have to be more diligent, more compassionate, more considerate to other people, if we want to be worthy of a human.
