Today, approximately 700 million people in the world suffer from water scarcity. By 2050, it is estimated that number could rise to 5 billion people. Yet 70% of our earth is covered in salt water. How can we convert this water into freshwater? In this program, the technology of Desalination is introduced. The two main types of technologies currently being used are the membrane and thermal methods. Recent innovations such as the use of sodium-ion batteries, grapheme oxide membranes, and electrochemical methods hold great potential for changing the future of water-desalination technologies.
