For five years, both the youngsters were adamant in not disclosing the confidential parts of their incredible experience. This led to many accusations that the pair were fabricating the story of the apparition, and so, in 1851, Melanie and Maximin privately sent their declarations to Pope Pius IX. The pope gave his approval of the experience as a Marian apparition, a reported supernatural appearance by the Blessed Saint Mary, Mother of Lord Jesus Christ. The next day, however, the documents were transferred to the Vatican archives by the secretary of state, where they remained undisclosed until 1999.

Melanie Calvat-Mathieu went on to take her vows as a nun and became a scholar. She later produced three autobiographical works – “The Secrets of La Salette,” “The Rule of the Mother of God,” and “The Autobiography” – divulging the contents of her message from the Lady of La Salette, verbatim, in 33 prophetic paragraphs. “Then water and fire will purify the Earth and will consume all the works of the pride of men, and all will be renewed: God will be served and glorified.”

Recently, our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai also warned about the evil priests. “They’re worse than any massacring government, worse than the people who work in the slaughterhouse for money. They had to earn a living. They had no other job in such a remote area. (Yes, Master.) They are worse than them. So, if these people from slaughterhouses or livestock raising will go to hell, then these priests, evil priests will go to deeper hells, and longer, long, long, long… forever. (Yes, Master.)”

Meanwhile, Maximin Giraud had a relatively short life. He made several pilgrimages to the site of the apparition on La Salette. Not long before passing away in 1875, at the age of 39, he stated in writing: “I firmly believe, even at the cost of my blood, in the celebrated apparition of the Most Holy Virgin Mary on the Holy mountain of La Salette, on September 19, 1846 – an apparition which I have defended in speech and suffering.” “In these sentiments, I give my heart to Our Lady of La Salette.”
