In 2025, extreme weather events continue to wreak havoc around the globe. In March 2025, tragedy struck Myanmar when a massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook the nation. The massive earthquake in Myanmar killed more than 3,600 people and injured thousands more. Over 10,000 structures were damaged, including hospitals and temples. Meanwhile, in Bangkok, Thailand, 1,200 kilometers away from the earthquake’s epicenter, tragedy also struck. Residents watched in horror as a high-rise office building under construction suddenly collapsed with approximately 100 construction workers inside.

A recent study presents a concerning connection between global warming and tectonic activity. Experts warn that global warming is likely to lead to more frequent and stronger earthquakes in the future. Other consequences of a hotter planet include more frequent and intense fires. In February, Ofunato, a town in northern Japan, was devastated by the country’s worst wildfire in decades. The blaze forced nearly 4,600 people to flee their homes. In March, Korea suffered its largest single forest fire on record. The blaze killed at least 26 people and displaced tens of thousands of others in the southeastern province of North Gyeongsang.

Our Most Gracious Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has reminded us many times that there’s only one way to stop global warming and the many other problems plaguing our planet: a global shift to the vegan lifestyle. “We now can see how imperative it is to stop the warming of the planet with the greenest of all green policies and actions, the most compassionate, the most heroic, the most life-saving action, that is: the vegan diet, organic vegan to be exact.
