Today I have an important tip about mulch. There are many benefits of using natural mulches over unsustainable rubber mulch created from shredded tires. Rubber mulch is often used on children’s playgrounds, and studies have shown that it is carcinogenic and detrimental to wildlife. It leaks pollutants like heavy metals that can kill marine wildlife. It can easily ignite, and volatile organic compounds can be inhaled when it gets hot. Therefore, using natural mulches containing native plants, grass, leaves or other organic matter are better alternatives since they aren’t harmful to the environment and all its inhabitants.
